Greetings!

Well our race season is under way.  We had a very successful Spring Fling 5K/10K last month and we're now getting ready for our first half marathon of the season.  If you're interested in running this race, please do not hesitate to register.  We have a limit of 300 for this race and we do expect it to fill.  We would really hate to turn you away on race day (if we're full) after all the training you've been doing!

Given the strong sign-ups for our races already, we think this is going to be another great year of racing!

This year we're bringing back a duathlon for those of you who either just don't like to swim, or who want to start warming up for Triathlon season.  We're also really excited about offering 2 of the 2011 Vermont Senior Games State Championship races (a 5K/10K and the Sprint Triathlon).  For the Vermont Senior Games, you don't even have to be a senior or a resident of Vermont to participate!  You only need to be 50 by December 31, 2011 (and we know how strong the 50+ racing community is).  Don't pass up the opportunity to bring home a gold, silver, or bronze medal from the Senior Games this summer!

Aside from these new events, we're thrilled to be offering three USA Triathlon Sanctioned races this year.  The first 2 sprint triathlons as well as the Burlington Triathlon (Olympic distance) will be sanctioned and are qualifying races for national championships.  But don't worry, you're still more than welcome to join in the fun even if you don't aspire to be a national champion.  We pride ourselves  as being a race series for all levels of racers.

If you're new to racing or you want to improve on your skills and you live in the local area, consider joining Rayne for Triathlon training beginning soon (details below).

Take a look at our schedule and make some goals for yourself.  If you need some help let us know.  We're happy to help you get going or point you in the right direction to make this a successful racing season for you.

Hope to see you soon!

SPRING HALF MARATHON - MAY 14, 8:00 AM

(Register by Sunday, May 1 to order a shirt)

half marathon shirt

Our first half marathon of the season is only 2 weeks away!  Are you registered yet?  We have a limit of 300 racers for this race and we do expect the race to fill so don't delay!  In fact, if you want to register and also purchase a t-shirt, you MUST register by Sunday, May 1, 2011.  Otherwise, pre-race registration will be open until either the race fills, or midnight, Wednesday, May 11, whichever comes first.

Please note that the t-shirt depicted features our half marathon logo. This year, "2011" will be featured in the mountains of the design.  At this point, we're not sure what color the shirts will be.

Getting back to the race, you can find the new race map online, as well as event information.  If you are already registered for the event, but would like to see confirmation of that, please go to the Half Marathon Event Info page and look down the columns for Registration Confirmation.  There will be a link there that will take you to a list of everyone who is registered as of the date noted.

Rayne is still looking for 16 volunteers to do various jobs including road marshalling and water stations.  Please visit our volunteer page on the website to sign up to help (more information on volunteering below).  The time commitment varies between 7:30 am and 11:00 am.

Team in TrainingRacevermont.com Partners Up with Team in Training

Racevermont.com is very pleased to announce that we have partnered up with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training (TNT) for the 2011 race season.  TNT is the world's leading sports charity training program. TNT's dynamic, hands-on training program enables participants to realize their dream of completing a marathon, half marathon, triathlon, century ride or hike adventure.

TNT participants get individualized training programs created by certified coaches; mentors to assist with fundraising; and the support from teammates who share their goals. TNT handles all the arrangements for the fabulous event weekend so you can focus on your race.

And most important, TNT participants know that the funds they raise are helping find better therapies and even cures for patients with cancer. Honored patients, blood cancer survivors, provide inspiration to the team every step of the way.

Vermont State Senior 5K/10K Championships - June 23, 2011

This is a terrific race to enter if you either love to run/race or you want a taste of what racing is all about.  We expect to see accomplished athletes as well as those who are new to running participating in this race.  You can choose between a 5K (3.1 mile) or 10K (6.2 mile) race.  Both courses are relatively flat and scenic.

Both races begin and end at Shelburne Health & Fitness at The Field House in Shelburne, Vermont.  They both start up the historic Ti Trail, but when the 5K runners turn around to run back, the 10K runners will continue to run on Bay Road up to Harbor Road and past Shelburne Farms on the way back to Shelburne Health & Fitness.  You'll find a map online as well as a host of other details.

The top 3 finishers in each 5-year age group in both the 5K and 10K will win medals and the top finishers will be declared the Vermont State Champions!  Vermont is an Open State as far as Senior Games go, so this race is open to everyone - no matter where you live.
